HostGator, The Planet, Join Forces

Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - March 22, 2007 - Shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, HostGator, and privately held dedicated hosting company, The Planet, have extended their strategic business relationship by entering into the largest customer transaction in the history of the two companies.

Through the terms of the agreement, HostGator will lease more than 1,700 additional servers in The Planet’s Houston and Dallas data centers, essentially doubling its server portfolio. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Read more of this news »

HostGator Utilizes Hostopia Templates

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - (Website Hosting Directory) - February 9, 2007 - Web hosting and Internet services company, Hostopia.com Inc., has debuted initial licensing of website templates to the service provider market, focusing on large hosting providers with strong reseller networks.

HostGator, one of North America’s leading hosting providers with a commanding share of the reseller market, has licensed Hostopia’s full inventory of professionally developed site templates for distribution to its customer base.

The website templates licensed by Hostopia are based on industry standard protocols to be fully compatible with leading development tools such as Namo WebEditor 2006 Suite, Adobe Photoshop6+, Macromedia Flash MX+, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, FrontPage 2003+, or any other HTML editor. File formats supported include PSD, HTML, SWF and FLA as well as non-flash versions.

Host Gator Debuts Ruby on Rails

Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - February 7, 2007 - Shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, Host Gator, has introduced standard Ruby on Rails installation support for all of its customers. The free open source web application, was developed to provide more choices for web development environments, and also supports Ruby Gems.

Brent Oxley, President of Host Gator explained, “At Host Gator, we cater to the developer that is passionate about technology and needs all the tools at his disposal required to build dynamic web applications. Ruby on Rails is a quickly becoming one of the important web development standards and we would be remiss if we didn’t provide this support to developers who demand it.”

Ruby on Rails is an open source web application framework written in the Ruby programming language, providing an efficient environment for web development, enabling developers to use some of the latest techniques for developing web applications.

Host Gator also announced support for some of the most popular Ruby Gems. A Ruby Gem is a plugin that adds functionality to the Ruby programming language. The pre-installed gems supported include actionmailer, actionpack, actionwebservice, activerecord, activesupport, gnuplot, mongrel, mysql, tidy, xml-simple, payment, BlueCloth, feedtools and htmltools. HostGator Web Hosting Plan Upgrade

HostGator announced recently that they are increasing the disk space and bandwidth allotments in shared web hosting and reseller hosting plans. The plan upgrades are available to both new and existing hosting customers. HostGator’s shared hosting plans pricing is $6.95, $9.95 and $14.95 per month. The plans now come with 50GB, 100GB and 200GB disk space allotments, and 200GB, 1,000GB and 2,000GB bandwidth, respectively.

Brent Oxley, President of HostGator gave the following statement about the upgrade:

“We are delighted to be able to offer our customers this increased capacity. Copious amounts of disk space and bandwidth are a basic hosting need and we make sure our customers have more than enough at their immediate disposal.
