Web Hosting companies did not site idle after a number of earthquakes ranging from 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale devasted Haiti on January 12, 2010. HostGator announced on Monday that it has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development fund.

The donation is the sixth six-digit charitable donation HostGator has made in its eight year history and the third such donation to the American Red Cross. The funds will help the Red Cross provide support for the relief efforts in Haiti, which will likely include mobilizing additional aid workers, sending supplies, and providing financial resources for what is certain to be a long recovery for the government and people of Haiti. Houston, Texas – (The Hosting News) – August 27, 2009 – HostGator.com has ranked as the 239th fastest-growing privately owned company in the country on the Inc. 5000 list for 2009 list.

The 2009 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, for profit, independent (not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies), and have had at least $200,000 in revenue from 2005, and at least $2 million in 2008.

HostGator’s revenue grew by over 896% during the measured period. In 2005, the Houston-based company saw revenues of $3.4 million–while in 2008, HostGator generated $34.2 million in annual revenue.

In addition to being ranked #239 overall, HostGator was ranked #6 out of all businesses in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area of Texas, and #20 in HostGator’s category of Business Products and Services across the country.

In 2008, HostGator was ranked #21 overall, on Inc. 5000′s list with 2007′s revenue of $18.7 million. Houston, Texas – (The Hosting News) – September 24, 2008 – HostGator has deployed Green-e certified Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from a Texas wind farm representing 130 percent of the electricity, for its shared, dedicated and reseller services.

RECs offset energy production through a renewable energy resource. The green energy is then fed into the electrical grid. Inc. magazine’s 5000 list recently named the company as the 21st fastest growing company in North America.

Brent Oxley, President and CEO of HostGator.com noted, ”We’re in a position to be part of the solution to climate change, rather than part of the problem. If climate change is happening because of people’s activities, then you have to wonder what kind of world we’re leaving to our children if we don’t change.”

The average server produces roughly the same greenhouse gas emissions as a 15 mpg SUV. Nationwide, some three to four percent of all electricity consumed in the United States goes to powering the IT sector.

• Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
• Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or

Houston, Texas – (The Hosting News) – January 29, 2008 – HostGator shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, after reporting a successful fiscal year, has given gifts to support cancer fighting initiatives, while promoting education in underdeveloped countries.

The company gave $100,000 to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and $25,000 to One Laptop per Child. The gifts were decided upon by HostGator management and staff, including a significant contribution to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Brent Oxley, President of HostGator noted, ”The gift to Anderson reflected a mix of the wishes of the staff here at HostGator and suggestions from our users.
